Introduction
Liberty is committed to supporting development in South Africa and Africa. We believe that our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives should contribute to building the thriving economy that is vital to our collective destiny, and which will light the way to financial prosperity for generations of South Africans and Africans.
Liberty’s CSI strategy and activities are based on the following values:
- To promote economic and social development
- To impact poverty by investing in people, the main resource for sustainable development
- To improve financial literacy and promote a culture of savings
- To invest in projects that produce measurable results, so that we can ensure that the funding makes a difference and achieves the goals we set out to achieve
Liberty’s guiding values
Education
Skills development is vital for economic growth and the alleviation of poverty. South Africans need to be educated and equipped with appropriate skills to exploit the industrial and technological challenges and opportunities that are offered locally, as well as internationally. For this reason, education is a focus of Liberty’s CSI mandate.
Culture of Saving
Improving South Africans’ spending and saving patterns is critical to economic progress.
Building sustainable communities
Developing communities need to be educated on financial literacy to create sustainable financial growth in these communities.
Liberty's Focus areas
Liberty’s CSI mandate is shaped around the wider socio-economic needs of South Africa’s national development agenda and the critical need that exists in developing communities, for mathematics and science programmes. Our main goal is to grow the pool of women and men who are able to succeed in careers that require mathematics and science education, such as the financial services industry.
By increasing the general level of basic financial education, we enable the public to make better financial life choices, and thereby contribute to decreasing the divide between rich and poor. To date, our CSI initiatives have had a positive, measurable impact on levels of education, empowering individuals to be self-sufficient and to play more constructive roles in society.
