CRISA - Sustainable investing

Liberty Group strives to be at the forefront of international best practice in looking after our policyholders’ investments. A number of committees are in place to ensure the appropriate governance and stewardship of your hard earned savings. In addition, our asset managers look beyond the obvious to invest in best-performing companies. Their investment decisions are guided partly by the impact that companies have on society and the environment, as these are potential indicators of whether companies will continue to perform over the long term.

This international best practice has now become part of a code for institutional investors (companies such as Liberty and STANLIB). The Code for Responsible Investing in South Africa (CRISA) was introduced in July 2011 to encourage institutional investors to include sustainability issues in investment decisions. Because Liberty and its asset managers were already complying with international best practice in this regard, it was easy for us to comply with the South Africa standard.
